Mary Osborne, Natalie Boyce

Here's what Natalie and Mary have to say about working on Rags and Riches. 'We first saw the movie A Christmas Carol when we were children. The picture it paints of what life in England was like when Charles Dickens was alive has always stayed with us. As we researched this book, we learned that many children during the Industrial Revolution had difficult lives. We also learned that even if children came from rich families, they often died young from diseases. Many countries, including the United States, had child factory workers in the nineteenth century. It was a new time with new problems, and people were often mistaken in the way they treated children. Today, many countries have rules that prevent young children from working. But there are still places all over the world where children work under terrible conditions.'.
